ORU Sweeps Athletes of the Week

ELMHURST, Ill. – Oral Roberts earned both Summit League Outdoor Athlete of the Week titles Tuesday, as junior Austin Simpson and sophomore Mercy Abire were recognized for their outstanding performances at the Baylor Invitational last Saturday, April 7.

Austin Simpson, ORAL ROBERTS  

Jr. // Kirtland, N.M.   

  • Competed in the javelin event at the Baylor Invitational Saturday, April 7
  • Earned a fifth-place finish after notching a personal-best throw of 163' 0" (49.68m)
  • Sixth-ranked performer in The Summit League this season (men's javelin)
  • First-career Summit League Outdoor Athlete of the Week honor

Mercy Abire, ORAL ROBERTS

  • Competed in two events for the Golden Eagles at the Baylor Invitational Saturday, April 7
  • In the women's long jump, soared to a first-place finish with a meet-best 19' 6.75" (5.96m) mark
  • Also contributed to a first-place finish in the 4x100m relay with a victorious time of 47.46
  • Currently tops in The Summit League this season in both the long jump and 4x1
  • Ranked 21st in the NCAA West Region in the women's long jump
  • First-career Summit League Outdoor Athlete of the Week honor
