Final #SummitOTF Athletes of the Week Revealed

ELMHURST, Ill. – With only two days separating us from the 2018 Summit League Outdoor Track & Field Championships, South Dakota's Chris Nilsen and North Dakota State's Payton Otterdahl were named Co-Athletes of the Week on the men's side Tuesday morning, while Otterdahl's teammate Maddy Nilles took home the season's final weekly honor for the women.

Chris Nilsen, SOUTH DAKOTA   

So. // Kansas City, Mo.    

  • Competed in the men's pole vault at the Howard Wood Dakota Relays May 5
  • Set a new personal best and school record, clearing 19' 2.75" (5.86m)
  • This season, Nilsen ranks first in the NCAA, first in the U.S. and tied for fourth in the world
  • Additionally, Nilsen climbed into a tie for fourth on the NCAA All-Time Pole Vault performers list
  • Nilsen also surpassed his coach and three-time Olympian Derek Miles by a centimeter
  • For good measure, broke the meet record by two feet
  • USTFCCCA DI National Athlete of the Week (second time this outdoor season)
  • Seventh-career Summit League Outdoor Track & Field Athlete of the Week honor (tied for most all-time)

Payton Otterdahl, NORTH DAKOTA STATE   

Jr. // Rosemount, Minn.    

  • Competed in the shot put and hammer throw at the NDSU Tune-Up May 4
  • Recorded a personal-best toss in the shot, mustering a first-place throw of 68' 7" (20.90m)
  • Shattered the NDSU school record in the process by over three feet
  • Three of Otterdahl's six throws Friday would have broke the previous school record
  • Now claims the No. 1 spot in on the NCAA performance list this season by an 11-inch margin
  • Jumped to No. 4 in the United States and No. 10 in the world in the shot put
  • Fourth-career Summit League Outdoor Athlete of the Week honor

  • Competed in the hammer, shot and discus events at the NDSU Tune-Up May 4
  • Finished first in the hammer with a school-record throw of 216' 4" (65.93m)
  • Bested the old NDSU hammer record by more than three feet
  • Moved up to No. 9 on the NCAA performance list this season
  • Also ranks 14th in the United States and 54th in the world in the hammer throw
  • Added a second-place finish in the discus and a fourth-place finish in the shot
  • Second-career Summit League Outdoor Athlete of the Week honor
