Summit League Track & Field Earns High Praise

NEW ORLEANS, La. – Eight Summit League teams and 42 student-athletes earned 2018 All-Academic recognition from the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Thursday.

The USTFCCCA All-Academic awards honor track & field teams and individuals from around the nation for their outstanding performances both in competition and the classroom.

NOTES

  • A total of 16 North Dakota State women were recognized Thursday, matching the program record set in 2016 and tying Arkansas and Stanford for the second-most USTFCCCA All-Academic Individuals on this year's list
  • Thursday's announcement marked the 13th-straight season both the NDSU men and women have been named USTFCCCA All-Academic Teams
  • The South Dakota women maintained the seventh-best grade point average (3.64) among all qualifying NCAA Division I track & field teams
  • This marks the 10th season in-a-row the Coyote women were named a USTFCCCA All-Academic Team, while the USD men earned their ninth-consecutive USTFCCCA All-Academic Team accolade
  • This is the first time in her career Omaha's Stephanie Ahrens has garnered USTFCCCA All-Academic Individual honors, finishing as a first-team All-American at 2018 NCAA DI Outdoor Track & Field Championships (high jump)
  • The South Dakota State women and men received USTFCCCA All-Academic Team awards, with the women posting a 3.54 GPA and the men notching a 3.26 GPA
  • Six Jackrabbits solidified spots on the USTFCCCA All-Academic Individuals list, including 2018 NCAA DI Outdoor Track & Field Championship competitor Rachel King (3000-meter steeplechase)
  • The Purdue Fort Wayne women were also acknowledged as a USTFCCCA All-Academic Team following a track & field season in which the Mastodons generated a 3.44 GPA

USTFCCCA ALL-ACADEMIC INDIVIDUALS – QUALIFICATIONS (Per USTFCCCA)

To qualify for USTFCCCA All-Academic honors, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative GPA of 3.25 and have met at least one of the following athletic standards:

  • For the indoor season, a student-athlete must have finished the regular season ranked in the national top 96 in an individual event or ranked in the national top 48 (collective listing) in a relay event on the official NCAA POP list provided by TFRRS.org.
  • For the outdoor season, a student-athlete must have participated in any round of the NCAA Division I Championships (including preliminary rounds).

USTFCCCA ALL-ACADEMIC TEAMS – QUALIFICATIONS (Per USTFCCCA)

To qualify for USTFCCCA All-Academic honors, a team must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.
