SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The non-conference season is behind us and it's time to enter The Summit League season and get the meat of the season underway. Three games will be played on Friday followed by four more on Saturday for a weekend full of Summit League action.

The Opening Tip

Western Illinois' Taylor Higginbotham had a fantastic weekend in Las Vegas to earn Summit League Player of the Week honors. Higginbotham, the lone senior on Western Illinois' squad, helped guide her team to a 1-and-1 record at the Las Vegas Holiday Hoops Classic. Higginbotham averaged 20-points and nine rebounds while dishing out two assists in their two games in Vegas.

Things to Watch

• The first two games of the Summit League schedule will be played by Omaha and Denver as well as Purdue Fort Wayne and North Dakota State. South Dakota State and Western Illinois will close out the first day of Summit League action

• North Dakota will play their first-ever Summit League game on Dec. 30 against Purdue Fort Wayne

• Only North Dakota and Western Illinois enter conference play on winning streaks

• Denver has produced the highest scoring offense in The Summit League this season, averaging 82.5 points per game

• South Dakota has been the best defensive squad in non-conference action allowing a league low 56.1 points per game

 

Summit League Notes

Denver

• Denver enters Summit League play with a record of 7-6

• Omaha leads the all-time series 8-3. The two programs first met in1992

• When they play in Omaha, Denver is 2-5 all-time

• Denver is 1-10 all-time against Western Illinois and have lost the last 10 meetings. They have never won in Macomb, Ill.

North Dakota

• North Dakota enters Summit League play with a record of 5-8

• The Fighting Hawks picked up two wins while in Florida and earned their first winning streak of the season

• Lexi Klabo leads The Summit League in scoring at 19 points per game

North Dakota State

• North Dakota State enters Summit League play with a 3-9 record

• The Bison went 0-2 while in Florida

• Michelle Gaislerova is ranked third in The Summit League in scoring at 16.4 points per game. She is averaging the most minutes played in the conference this season at just under 37 minutes per contest

Omaha

• Omaha enters Summit League play with a record of 5-7

• Omaha leads the all-time series 8-3. The two programs first met in1992

• When they play in Omaha, the Mavericks are 5-2 all-time

• The Mavericks have lost their last three non-conference games and will have one non-conference game left against Peru State on Jan. 30

• UNO opens Summit League play at home against Denver and Oral Roberts

Oral Roberts

• Oral Roberts enters Summit League play with a 7-6 record

• The Golden Eagles have won four of their last six games

• ORU will take on Omaha to open Summit League action on Dec. 30 before playing North Dakota at home on Jan. 2

Purdue Fort Wayne

• Purdue Fort Wayne enters Summit League play with a 4-8 record

• The Mastodons are 1-1 in their last two games

• PFW will start the 2018-19 Summit League schedule on the road with games at North Dakota State and North Dakota

South Dakota

• South Dakota enters Summit League play with a 12-2 record

• They had their 10-game winning streak snapped by Indiana in their final game in Puerto Rico

• USD had an impressive non-conference schedule with wins over two nationally ranked opponents

• The Yotes will start Summit League play in the road against North Dakota State and Denver

South Dakota State

• South Dakota State enters Summit League play with an 8-5 record

• The Jackrabbits have won five of their last seven games

• During the non-conference schedule SDSU defeated one nationally ranked team and narrowly defeated No. 7 Oregon

• South Dakota State's Macy Miller is ranked second in The Summit League in scoring at 16.8 points per game

Western Illinois

• Western Illinois enters Summit League play with a 4-9

• The Leathernecks won their final non-conference game against Furman to enter conference play on a high note

• WIU will host South Dakota State and Denver to open the conference season
