Nelson, Duffy share player of the week honors

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Denver's Madison Nelson and South Dakota's Ciara Duffy garnered a share of the latest Summit League Women's Basketball Player of the Week honor after helping their respective teams to 2-0 records during the week.

Nelson helped Denver to back-to-back wins posting a double-double in each victory. She recorded a game-high 17 points and season-best 14 rebounds against Wyoming while following up that performance with a season-high 20 points and game-high 11 boards in a win over Cal Poly.

She currently leads the team with 17.8 points and 11.5 rebounds per game to average a double-double. Nelson leads the league in rebounds per game and is third in points per game and total points.

Duffy led South Dakota to a pair of overtime wins last week, averaging 18 points, six rebounds and 5.5 assists on the week. Against mid-major power and Missouri Valley preseason favorite Drake, she tallied 20 points with seven boards and four assists. Duffy followed that performance with 16 points, seven assists, and five rebounds against the Pac-12's Utah.

With her performances this week, Duffy helped the Coyotes remain undefeated with three true road game victories to start the year. She moved to ninth on USD's career scoring charts and fourth for 3-pointers made. Nationally, she sits sixth in assists (24) and 15th for points (81).

  • Led South Dakota to a pair of overtime wins last week over opponents that finished in the top-88 of the RPI last year
