UMKC’s Alawadhi and IPFW’s Kiefer Claim Final Weekly Awards
ELMHURST, Ill. - UMKC's Abdulrahman Alawadhi and IPFW's Caterina Kiefer were named as The Summit League's men's and women's tennis players of the week for their performances April 17-23. The awards mark the final weekly honors of the 2012 season.
Abdulrahman Alawadhi, UMKC

Alawadhi earned his first career award after posting identical 4-0 singles and doubles records during the week. In Summit League play, Alawadhi recorded three straight-set victories at No. 3 singles over South Dakota State's Justin Pyle (2 and 2), Oral Roberts' Pedro Moreno (3 and 0) and Western Illinois' Jim Capalbo (2 and 1). In doubles action, he teamed with Gustavo Guerin for wins over SDSU (8-7 (7-5)), ORU (8-2) and WIU (8-3) tandems. Alawadhi's three league wins helped catapult the Kangaroos into a three-way tie for the regular season title while claiming the top seed in this weekend's Summit League Championship. He owns a nine-match singles win streak and has been victorious in seven of his last eight doubles matches.

Caterina Kiefer, IPFW

Kiefer garnered her first award of the season after a non-league victory over Ball State. Playing the No. 4 singles position against Ashlyn Rang, Kiefer posted a 6-4, 6-3 win and accounted for one of her team's two points in the match. Kiefer extended her win streak to six matches and has won seven of her last nine entering this weekend's Summit League Championship. Her Mastodons finished as regular season runner-up and are the No. 2 seed in the tournament.
