Summit League Announces Women’s Tennis Academic All-League Team

ELMHURST, Ill. – Five women's tennis players were selected to the 2014 Summit League Academic All-League Team as voted by the Faculty Athletic Representatives and Sports Information Directors of the league's eight member institutions. Student-athletes were chosen for the honor based on their academic and athletic performances this season.

The five team selections came from five different institutions - Jenny Blackburne, South Dakota State; Abbey Neff, IUPUI; Yaminni Reddy, South Dakota; Caroline Schnell, Denver; Alex Tran, Omaha. Schnell and Tran also earned All-Summit League recognition.

Three of the five honorees, Blackburne, Reddy and Tran, earned their second consecutive Academic All-League awards.

Blackburne, with a 3.922 GPA in mechanical engineering/health physical education recreation, posted a 16-9 singles record, including a 3-3 mark in Summit League play.

Neff, who has a 3.562 GPA in environmental science, had six doubles victories, including four at the No. 1 position, and five singles wins.

Reddy, with a 3.66 GPA in contemporary media and journalism and business administration, went 13-7 in singles play with nine wins coming in straight sets, and added nine doubles victories.

Schnell, who has a 3.55 GPA in finance, captained the regular season and tournament champion Pioneers. She posted an 8-4 singles record and was named Summit League Player of the Week for March 18-24.

Tran, with a 3.79 GPA in biology and French, had a team-best 10 singles wins, including a 4-2 record in Summit League matches. She also went 4-2 in league doubles matches and totaled eight doubles wins during the season.

To be eligible for the Academic All-League team, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.30 (on a 4.0 scale), completed at least one full academic year at the current institution and participated in 50 percent of their team's competitions.
