ELMHURST, Ill. –Denver's Becca Latham and Oral Roberts' Megan Doran were named the #SummitVB Offensive and Defensive Players of the week Monday after their efforts on the court over the weekend.
Latham played in all six sets for the Pioneers (17-5, 8-2), helping her squad secure victories over South Dakota State and North Dakota State. Latham threw down a total of 28 kills in the two matches, posting 15 against the Jackrabbits and adding 13 more versus the Bison—good enough for a 4.67 kills/set clip. Already the Summit's hitting percentage leader in league matches this season, Latham bolstered that number with a .522-mark last weekend.
The Pioneers are 8-0 in 2017 when Latham starts and 14-1 when she records double-digit kills. During Denver's current five-match win streak, Latham has totaled 64 kills (4.00 kills/set) and is hitting .507.
Doran was dominant at the front of the net last week for the Golden Eagles (13-10, 10-1), tallying 11 total blocks in seven sets played—good enough for a 1.57 blocks/set average. While she has only played in 26 percent of the matches for the Golden Eagles, Doran's 1.30 blocks/set season average would be tops in the Summit League by 0.13 blocks/set and would rank 43rd in the country.
Just like Latham for DU, Doran has proven to be instrumental toward ORU's success in 2017. As a team, the Golden Eagles are undefeated (6-0) and 18-2 in sets played since Doran returned to the lineup.
