SUU's Levins, SDSU's Donovan Named October Athletes of the Month
ELMHURST, Ill. - The Summit League selected Southern Utah men's cross country athlete Cameron Levins (Black Creek, British Columbia) as the Male Athlete of the Month and South Dakota State soccer player Kat Donovan (Redmond, Wash.) as the Female Athlete of the Month for October.
Levins captured first place in all four cross country meets he competed in to earn the Male Athlete of the Month award. The senior was named Championship MVP of The Summit League Championships after placing first with an 8k time of 24:34.30. Prior to the league championships, Levins took first place medalist honors at the prestigious Arkansas Chile Pepper Festival with a 10k time of 29:13.8. He also placed first in the Bill Dellinger 8k Invitational (23:10.51) and the Color Country 6k Invitational (18:36.20). On the year, Levins had five first-place finishes, was named Summit League Athlete of the Week four times, setting a new league record for career awards with 13, and has led the Thunderbirds to a sixth-place ranking in the Mountain Region.
Donovan garners Female Athlete of the Month honors after posting 832:23 minutes of shutout soccer, the 12th-longest consecutive streak in NCAA history. During the month, she allowed just one goal for 0.12 goals against average with 28 saves and a .966 save percentage. She posted seven shutouts in eight league matches and held league opponents scoreless for 712:31 consecutive minutes. Donovan made a season-high eight saves in the 3-1 win over North Dakota State on Oct. 29 that clinched the regular season league championship. The senior goalkeeper also set a new Summit League and SDSU record with 11 shutouts this season and helped the Jackrabbits tie for the most points in league history with 25.
