Five Summit League Cross Country Runners Garner USTFCCCA All-Region Honors
NEW ORLEANS, La. - Five Summit League cross country runners, three men and two women, garnered USTFCCCA All-Region honors for their performances at the NCAA Regional Championship meets. Southern Utah led the way with three honorees, Cameron Levins, Nate Jewkes and Diana Medina-Mitchell, while UMKC and Oral Roberts each had one selection in Cosmas Ayabei and Kristen Radcliff.
For the men, Levins posted the highest finish of any league runner with a second-place finish at the Mountain Region Championship. The 2011 Summit League Men's Champion finished the 10k race in 30:11.5, only two seconds behind first-place finisher BYU's Miles Batty. Ayabei was the second-best finisher for The Summit League men, with a seventh-place (31:23.46) finish at the Midwest Region Championship. Jewkes crossed the finish line at 31:07.7 for 18th place at the Mountain Region Championship.
On the women's side, Medina-Mitchell recorded a league-best 10th-place finish at the Mountain Region Championship with a 6k time of 21:16.0. Radcliff posted a 22nd-place finish (21:41.91) at the Midwest Region Championship.
After their qualifying runs at the NCAA Regional Championships, Levins, Ayabei and Jewkes will represent The Summit League at the 2011 NCAA Men's Cross Country Championship. The NCAA Cross Country Championships are set to take place on Monday, Nov. 21, at the LaVern Gibson Championship Course in Terre Haute, Ind. hosted by Indiana State. The men's race will begin at approximately 12:08 p.m. (EST). A live webcast of the men's and women's championships will be broadcast from noon to 1:30 p.m. (EST), on NCAA.com.
