ELMHURST, Ill. – South Dakota State's Lukas Nelson was named The Summit League Men's Cross Country Athlete of the Week for his performance during the Sept. 1-2 season-opening weekend. The honor marks the first weekly award of the season.

- Received his first career Cross Country Athlete of the Week honor
- Finished second overall, first among collegiate competitors, at the Bison Open in Fargo
- Posted a time of 29:21.9, 39 seconds faster than his previous personal-best
- Paced a field that included North Dakota State and North Dakota while making his collegiate debut
