Softball Championship

May 8-11, 2019

Location

Tharaldson Park at the Ellig Sports Complex

The North Dakota State University softball team's on-campus stadium is Tharaldson Park, which was renamed in September 2018 following a two-year $2 million renovation. The project was completed in 2018 with the installation of FieldTurf across the entire playing surface, bullpens and batting cages along with a fully padded outfield wall measuring 200 feet down the lines and 218 feet to center field. Bleacher seating for 183 spectators was added down the right field line, bringing the total seating capacity to 735. The first phase of renovations in 2017 included a new grandstand with 552 chairback seats, backstop netting from dugout to dugout, a 10-person press box with two broadcasting booths and a camera platform, and a new 10-inning Daktronics scoreboard with integrated sound system. Parking for the softball facility is available in the NQ campus parking lot located on 17th Avenue North between the softball diamond and NDSU Research Park. The facility is named after Gary and Connie Tharaldson. Mr. Tharaldson, a native of Dazey, N.D., is the founder of Tharaldson Companies, now known as Tharaldson Hospitality Management LLC, which builds and operates hotels across the United States. He is an avid sports fan and has been a long-time supporter of softball in the region. Designed by ICON Architectural Group of Grand Forks and West Fargo, N.D., the project was constructed by Key Contracting Inc. of West Fargo with electrical, structural and civil planning by KLJ Engineering of Fargo. Electrical work was completed by Grotberg Electric Inc. of West Fargo.
