August/September Athletes of the Month Release

ELMHURST, Ill. - The Summit League has selected IUPUI cross country runner Robert Murphy (Warsaw, Ind.) as the Male Athlete of the Month and Oral Roberts volleyball player Laura Milos (Porec, Croatia) as the Female Athlete of the Month for August/September.
Murphy garners his first career Athlete of the Month honor after securing a pair of individual wins and one runner-up finish in September. The senior won the Butler Open on Sept. 2 with a season-best 6K time of 18:22.3 and helped the Jaguars place first in the event. On Sept. 30, he took medalist honors at the Notre Dame Joe Piane Invitational, clocking a season-best five-mile time of 24:19.4. His 8K time of 25:36.04 placed him second at the Indiana Intercollegiates on Sept. 16. A three-time Summit League Athlete of the Week, Murphy has beaten 263 of the 264 competitors he has run against this season. He became the first runner in IUPUI history to win multiple individual meets in a season and has helped the Jags to a No. 7 ranking in the Great Lakes Region.

Milos collects the first Athlete of the Month award in her career after leading the nation in kills per set (5.80), aces per set (0.93) and points per set (6.91). She also ranks second nationally in total aces, total points and is third in total kills. A two-time Offensive Player of the Week this season, she recorded a triple-double (22 kills, 13 digs, 10 service aces) in the four-set win over Central Arkansas on Sept. 2. She added a 35-kill, 25-dig performance against Stephen F. Austin (Sept. 9) and had a 28-kill, 10-dig outing in the win over UTEP (Aug. 27). In addition to her triple-double, the junior had five double-doubles during the month. A member of the Tulsa Invitational All-Tournament Team, Milos averaged 5.80 kills per set, 2.41 digs per set, 0.93 service aces per set and 0.34 blocks per set during the months of August and September.
