Six Summit League Teams Earn NCAA's Public Recognition Award

ELMHURST, Ill. - Six Summit League teams were bestowed with the NCAA Public Recognition Award, an honor given to teams whose most recent multi-year Academic Progress Rates (APR) are among the top 10 percent in each sport.

IPFW and South Dakota State each had two teams on the list while North Dakota State and Western Illinois also had a team recognized.

Head coaches for each of the honored squads received a congratulatory letter from the NCAA. The group includes IPFW's Billy King (men's golf) and Kelley Hartley Hutton (volleyball), South Dakota State's Aaron Johnston (women's basketball) and Don Hanson (women's tennis), North Dakota State's Matt Johnson (women's golf) and Western Illinois' Holly Van Vlymen (softball).

A total of 909 teams earned Public Recognition Awards this year for high achievement, representing 14 percent of the 6,385 eligible Divison I teams. The list includes 525 women's teams and 384 men's or mixed squads. Last year, 841 teams were recognized.
