Each month, The Summit League will feature outstanding student-athlete performances from a selected institution as recognized by its Faculty Athletic Representative. The October installment of The Summit League Scholar-Athlete Spotlight features three student-athletes from Western Illinois.
Amber Davis, Women’s Soccer
Eligibility Year/Hometown: Sr./Milton, Wis.
Majors: Exercise Science and Recreation, Parks and Tourism Administration
Amber is a three-time Summit League Distinguished Scholar and was named to the NSCAA All-North/Central Region Second Team in 2012. Davis was recently named a semi-finalist for the Senior CLASS Award, one of only 30 women's soccer student-athletes in Division I. She was one of only 50 Leathernecks to be awarded the WIU Provost Award in 2013 and was one of only 300 student-athletes nationwide to be invited to the NCAA Career in Sports Forum. A team captain for the 2013 season, she is part of a Leatherneck defense that tied a program record last season recording nine shutouts. Davis holds a 3.723 GPA while double majoring in Exercise Science and Recreation, Parks and Tourism Administration.
Nate Davis, Men’s Golf
Eligibility Year/Hometown: Jr./Winchester, Ill.
As a junior, Davis is leading the Leathernecks this fall with a 74.0 stroke average through six rounds. He fired a season low 70 at the D.A. Weibring Intercollegiate on Sept 16. Through 47 rounds, the Winchester, Ill. native owns a career 76.83-stroke average. He was named to the 2013 Summit League Winter/Spring Academic Honor Roll as a sophomore and golfed in all 35 rounds, using 2,708 strokes and owing a 77.3 stroke average. He earned a spot on The Summit League All-Tournament Team after finishing fourth overall with a 221, his best finish of the season. He finished with 21 rounds in the 70s, which tied the team-high, and had one round in the 60s, a 69, which came at the NYX Hoosier Invitational on April 6-7. Davis was named to the 2012 Summit League Winter/Spring Academic Honor Roll as a freshman and finished with a 76.5 average in six rounds of play, including a three-round low of 225 at The 2012 Summit League Tournament. Davis owns a 3.247 GPA majoring in Finance.
Ann Miller, Volleyball
Eligibility Year/Hometown: Jr./Bettendorf, Iowa
Major: Supply Chain Management
As a junior, Miller is currently second on the team with 218 kills and 3.57 kills per set. She also leads the Leathernecks with 168 digs on the season. Miller was named to the All-Tournament Team at both the CEFCU Classic and Hawkeye Challenge earlier this year. As a sophomore in 2012, Miller appeared in 85 sets, recording 279 kills and 3.28 kills per set. As a freshman, she was named to The Summit League All-Freshman Team after finishing second on the team with 263 kills, 349 digs and 19 service aces. Miller has been selected as a Scholar-Athlete of the Week twice at Western and has been named a Summit League Fall Academic Distinguished Scholar twice. The Bettendorf, Iowa native owns a 3.909 GPA majoring in Supply Chain Management.
