Inside The Summit
Now in its second season, “Inside The Summit League” is hosted by Tom Nieman. Visit thesummitleague.org/itsl to view the list of channels and times or to watch online. This week’s show has an interview with Commissioner Douple on the addition of Oral Roberts, recaps men’s basketball, women’s basketball and indoor track & field and has the campus spotlight on Omaha.
Basketball / Women’s
The Summit League men’s and women’s basketball seasons began last month … The men’s and women’s weekly notebooks and the men’s and women’s resource pages supply all the necessary league info to follow the season.
Denver’s Kristen Hamilton was recently named a semifinalist for the MAC Hermann Trophy … Click here to read the full release … Hamilton and teammate Nicholette DiGiacomo were named NSCAA/Continental Tire All-Americans last week … Hamilton earned first team honors while DiGiacomo was named to the third team … To view the full recap, click here.
Four Summit Leaguers earned AVCA All-Region honors … Denver’s Colleen King and Brea Muhle and South Dakota’s Kendall Kritenbrink were named to the Midwest All-Region team, while Fort Wayne’s Emily Spencer collected North All-Region Honorable Mention honors … Click here to read the full release.
Three league teams compete this weekend … Omaha hosts league foe South Dakota on Friday and Nebraska on Saturday, while Western Illinois is at UIC on Saturday … Summit League swimmers have nine times ranked in the NCAA top-30 this week, including a pair of times in the top-10 … Denver’s Dylan Bunch is fourth in the nation in the 1,650 free and Samantha Corea is 10th in the 200 back … Bunch and Corea combined to set six all-time league records, six individual and two relays … Bunch set league records in the 500 free (4:20.31) and 1,650 free (14:54.60), becoming the first swimmer in league history to record a sub 15 minute time in the 1,650 free … Corea posted individual all-time league records in the 50 free (22.72), 100 fly (52.72), 100 back (53.44) and 200 back (1:53.78) and was a part of the DU 400 free (3:21.10) and 400 medley (3:41.68) record setting relay squads.
Indoor Track &
Omaha is the lone team in action this weekend as the Mavericks open their season at the K-State All-Comers on Saturday … After opening weekend, Summit Leaguers have combined for 32 times/marks in the NCAA top-30, including 12 in the top-10 and one NCAA leader … North Dakota State’s Andy Lillejord leads the way atop the nation in the heptathlon with 5,628 points and is also ranked in the NCAA top-20 in two other events … A pair of Bison teammates are also ranked in the top-10 nationally, Moses Heppner is fifth in the 800 meters (1:53.76) and Alex Espeland is ninth in the mile (4:13.34) … Western Illinois’ Jamario Taylor is sixth in the high jump (2.13m) and Nathanial Marshall is seventh in the weight throw (19.37m) … On the women’s side, NDSU has five athletes in the NCAA top-10, Jenny Guibert is third in the 800 meters (2:13.88), Erin Teschuk is third in the mile (4:56.96), Amy Andrushko is fourth in the 800 meters (2:14.93), Maddie McClellan is eight in the mile (5:02.47) and Lexy Boschee is 10th in the pentathlon (3,350 pts.) … Fort Wayne has two DMR teams in the top-10 at fourth and eighth.
