Fort Wayne 82, South Dakota State 75
FORT WAYNE, Ind. (AP) - Luis Jacobo tied a season high by scoring 24 points to lead Fort Wayne past South Dakota State 82-75 Saturday night.

Pierre Bland's layup with 12:51 left gave Fort Wayne (14-5, 2-0 Summit League) a 57-56 lead and sparked an 8-0 run by the Mastodons, who wouldn't trail again.

Chad White hit a 3-point shot with 3:22 remaining, pulling South Dakota State (9-8, 1-1) within 74-70, but Fort Wayne's Steve Forbes responded with a conventional three-point play and following a missed jumper by Cody Larson, Mo Evans knocked down a pair of free throws to extend the Fort Wayne lead to nine and the Mastodons held on from there.

Fort Wayne dominated the interior, out-rebounding the Jackrabbits 12-4 on the offensive glass while out-scoring them 12-4 on second-chance opportunities. Fort Wayne held a 42-16 advantage in points in the paint.

Brayden Carlson scored a career-high 24 points to pace SDSU.

North Dakota State 87, IUPUI 64
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Trayvon Wright made 10 of 14 field goal attempts, totaling a career-high 24 points as North Dakota State overwhelmed IUPUI 87-64 Saturday.

Taylor Braun had 16 points, Mike Felt and Marshall Bjorklund added 12 each and Kory Brown had 11 points with 10 rebounds for North Dakota State (12-5, 1-1 Summit League).

IUPUI (5-14, 0-2) led 19-14 with 8:17 remaining in the first half. Felt then made two consecutive 3-point shots and three free throws to move the Bison ahead 23-19 at the 6:22 mark. They led 34-31 at the break. Ian Chiles made a layup to start the second half and closed the gap to 35-33. The Bison went on a 10-2 run to lead 45-35 and were never threatened again.

The Bison made 32 of 63 field goal attempts, including 8 of 14 3-point shots.

Donovan Gibbs and Marcellus Barksdale had 14 points each to lead IUPUI.

South Dakota 59, Denver 54
VERMILLION, S.D. (AP) — Trevor Gruis had 19 points with 10 rebounds and Brandon Bos added 15 points as South Dakota defeated Denver 59-54 in the Summit League opener for both teams Saturday.

The Coyotes (6-9, 1-0) surged ahead in the second half as Tyler Flack had two jumpers and a dunk to fuel an 11-3 run and push the lead to 49-38 near the midway mark.

Denver (7-9, 0-1) looked to climb back as Brett Olson sank two free throws to ignite a quick 8-2 surge, but Karim Rowson answered with a layup and 3-pointer to make it 56-46 with 5:57 remaining.

Olson drilled a 3-pointer and two free throws to pull within three, but the Pioneers missed three 3-point attempts and two free throws in the final minute.

South Dakota shot 56.8 percent from the field and had a 29-21 advantage in rebounding.

Olson paced Denver with 22 points on 7-of-12 shooting.

Western Illinois 79, Omaha 69 (OT)
MACOMB, Ill. -- Garrett Covington scored 17 points Saturday night, including six free throws in overtime, and Western Illinois rallied to beat Omaha 79-69 in their Summit League opener.

Tate Stensgaard scored 12 points and grabbed 11 rebounds, and Jabari Sandifer added 11 points for the Leathernecks (7-9, 1-0).

The lead changed hands six times in the first half and Omaha (10-6, 0-1) led 20-19 at halftime. The Mavericks led 61-59 with 11 seconds to play in regulation when Remy Roberts-Burnett hit a jumper to tie it at 61.

The Leathernecks scored six quick points in overtime, and then sank 10 free throws to lead 79-67 with 8 seconds to play. Devin Patterson scored a layup and 3-pointer and time expired.

Western Illinois outshot Omaha 48.2 percent to 38.8 percent and outrebounded them 44-32.

John Karhoff scored 25 for Omaha, Marcus Tyus scored 15, and Patterson finished with 10.
