North Dakota State 75, Omaha 59
OMAHA, Neb. (AP) - Taylor Braun hit everything from reverse layups in traffic to deep 3-pointers to score 31 points with a career-high 15 rebounds in North Dakota State's 75-59 defeat of Nebraska-Omaha on Saturday.
Braun hit 12 of 16 shots -- including 4 of 5 from deep -- in his fourth 30-plus scoring game this season. The pyrotechnics lifted the Bison (20-6, 9-2 Summit League) to their first back-to-back 20-win seasons since 1995-96 and 1996-97.
The first half was hotly contested with five ties and 11 lead changes. A Braun 3-pointer pulled NDSU into the lead for good at 30-28 just before the half. Lawrence Alexander added 11 points and TrayVonn Wright 10 for the Bison.
John Karhoff led the cold-shooting Mavericks (31.7 percent) with 16 points.
North Dakota State outscored Omaha (15-11, 4-6) 36-26 in the paint and 19-14 off turnovers -- significantly 17-4 off turnovers after halftime.
South Dakota State 62, Western Illinois 50
MACOMB, Ill. (AP) - Jordan Dykstra scored 16 of his 20 points in the second half and grabbed 13 rebounds as South Dakota State ran away from Western Illinois for a 62-50 win Saturday night.
Dykstra tied the game at 28 with 15:30 left and Jake Bittle gave the Jackrabbits the lead on back-to-back jumpers to spark a 13-4 run that put South Dakota State in charge with a 41-32 lead.
Bittle finished with 18 points and eight rebounds for South Dakota State (16-10, 8-3 Summit). The Jackrabbits shot 37 percent from the field (17 of 46) and was just 2 of 10 from long range, but held a decisive edge on the boards -- outrebounding the Leathernecks 44-27.
Mike Miklusak and Garret Covington each scored 12 points to lead Western Illinois (9-16, 3-7), which shot 15 of 47 from the field (31.9 percent) and just 4 of 17 from long range.
Denver 73, Fort Wayne 62
FORT WAYNE, Ind. (AP) - Bryant Rucker and Brett Olson both scored 18 points as Denver trumped Fort Wayne 73-62 on Saturday.
Denver (13-12, 6-4 Summit) used an 11-4 run late in the first half, including a pair of treys by Rucker, to lead 35-25 at half. Fort Wayne shot 50 percent in the half, but eight turnovers limited its total number of shots and the team went 1 of 6 on 3-pointers. Fort Wayne finished with 21 turnovers.
Fort Wayne (19-9, 7-4) trimmed its deficit to three at 52-49 with 8:08 left on a tip-in by Joe Reed, but missed its next four shots as Denver went on an 11-4 run to wrest control of the game. Denver made 7 of 8 free throws inside of 1:07 to seal the victory.
Chris Udofia added 16 points and five assists for Denver, which was out-rebounded 31-16.
Fort Wayne was led by Pierre Bland with 15 points.
South Dakota 71, IUPUI 67
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Trevor Gruis scored 18 points and South Dakota withstood a late rally from IUPUI for a 71-67 win on Saturday.
South Dakota (10-15, 4-6 Summit League) led 64-54 before IUPUI (6-22, 1-10) closed the game on a 13-7 run.
P.J. Hubert's 3-pointer with 18 seconds left cut the lead to 68-64. After South Dakota missed the front end of a 1-and-1, Elijah Ray's 3-pointer with 10 seconds to go brought the Jaguars within 68-67.
Tyler Larson hit two free throws for South Dakota to put the Coyotes up 70-67 before Marcellus Barksdale was fouled and missed two attempts for IUPUI. Larson made one more free throw with 3 seconds left to preserve the win.Larson scored 13 for the Coyotes. Tyler Flack had 12 and Trey Norris added 10.
Mitch Patton led the Jaguars with 16 points. Ray added 12 points and Barksdale had 10.
