FORT WAYNE, Ind. (AP) — Isaiah McCray and Joe Edwards both scored 16 points and IPFW stormed to an 89-71 runaway win over Jacksonville Monday night.
The Mastodons started fast with a 10-2 run and never looked back, extending the lead to 20 points at halftime, 49-29.
IPFW (3-1) shot 31 of 58 from the field (53.4 percent) and was 10 of 25 from long range.
Jacksonville (1-4) battled back from a 28-point second half, but the only time the lead got under 20 points was on J.R. Holder's layup with :09 left to create the final margin.
Kori Babineaux scored 20 points to lead the Dolphins, with Tim Gill adding 14 points, Holder 12 and Josh Adeyeye 10.
Jacksonville was 25 of 66 from the field, but converted just 1 of 11 shots from three-point range and was 20 of 25 from the free throw line.
South Dakota State 87, Chadron State 42
ROOKINGS, S.D. (AP) — Jake Bittle scored 12 points to lead South Dakota State to an 87-42 win over lower-division Chadron State on Monday night.
South Dakota State (2-2) took control with a 12-0 run capped by a Reed Tellinghuisen layup that made it 22-5 with 6:20 to go in the first period. The Jackrabbits took a 36-12 advantage into the break and continued to pull away in the second half.
Tellinghuisen, Cody Larson and Skyler Flatten contributed 11 points apiece for South Dakota State, which shot 51.6 percent and was 18 of 25 from the free throw line in the first meeting between the programs.
Chadron State hit just 15 of 59 from the floor and was out-rebounded 44-39.
Kendrick Holliman led the Eagles with 12 points and seven rebounds.
