USD, ORU, NDSU claim athlete of the week accolades

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Multiple single event titles and a couple of broken school records earned four Summit League track and field student-athletes weekly honors, released by league officials Tuesday. South Dakota's Brithton Senior and North Dakota State's Alex Talley walked away with the athlete of the week awards on the men's side while Oral Roberts' Sasha Wells and NDSU's Akealy Moton earned the honor on the women's side.

At the Iowa State Classic, Senior tied the South Dakota program record for the 60m hurdles set by his hurdle coach to claim the event. His winning time of 7.77 seconds is two-hundredths of a second faster than his previous time in the event from earlier this season.

Talley placed second at the Washington Husky Classic in the weight throw with a mark of 70-01.50 (21.37m). He followed up his performance the next day by taking the shot put title with a mark of 63-00.00 (19.20m). Talley leads the league in both throwing events this season.

For the women, Wells took home the 60m hurdle event title at the Indoor Gorilla Classic with a time of 8.30. Her winning time tied her ORU record set earlier this season in the event. In addition to her 60m hurdle title, Wells placed fourth in the 60m dash with a time of 7.52 and in the 200m dash with a time of 24.47. She now owns the league's best time in both the 60m hurdles and the 60m dash as well as the second-fast in the 200m.

At the Washington Husky Classic, Moton continued to make her presence known in the field. She finished second overall and the top collegian in the shot put with a mark of 57-00.75 (17.39m). Moton's second-place finish overall came behind Yang Gao, a Chinese professional thrower who is ranked 14th in the world this year.
