ELMHURST, Ill. – South Dakota's Raeshel Contreras was named The Summit League's Player of the Week for her performances Dec. 15-21.

Contreras collects her second Player of the Week award this season after guiding South Dakota to a pair of victories last week. The senior guard led the Coyotes with a career-high 29 points on 9-of-16 shooting with four steals and three assists in a win over North Dakota, who came into the game receiving votes in the Mid-Major Poll with an 8-3 record. She added 19 points with six rebounds and nine assists in a win over St. Mary (Kan.). For the week, Contreras averaged 24 points, six assists, five steals and 3.5 rebounds per contest. She shot 52 percent (16-of-31) from the field, 50 percent (8-of-16) from downtown and was perfect at the free throw line (8-of-8) with a 2.4 assist-to-turnover ratio. South Dakota currently has a league-best seven-game winning streak.

In its fourth decade of Division I athletics, The Summit League features women's basketball teams from nine member institutions: Denver, Fort Wayne, IUPUI, North Dakota State, Omaha, Oral Roberts, South Dakota, South Dakota State and Western Illinois. Over the past five seasons (2010-14), The Summit League has the nation's second-highest RPI gain (+10) during that span. In 2013-14, The Summit League tied its all-time high with four teams across three national postseason tournaments, recorded its highest combined postseason winning percentage and deepest postseason national tournament run, and had its best year-end Sagarin Ranking in a decade.
