Sims, Waytashek Named #SummitWBB Players of the Week

ELMHURST, Ill. – IUPUI's Akilah Sims and South Dakota State's Megan Waytashek were named The Summit League Players of the Week for their performances Jan. 19-25.

Akilah Sims, IUPUI

Sims collects her first career Player of the Week honor after leading IUPUI to a pair of victories over first place South Dakota and third place Denver. Playing in her first games since missing the previous three, the junior forward scored 17 points with five rebounds and two assists in the win over the Coyotes Saturday. The Jaguars held the Coyotes to just 43 points in the game, which was nearly half of their season average entering the game (80.4 ppg). She scored 12 points in just 12 minutes with four assists and a pair of rebounds in Thursday's win over Denver. For the week, Sims averaged 14.5 points, nearly doubling her season average, 3.5 rebounds and three assists. She shot 63 percent (10-of-16) from the field, 56 percent (5-of-9) from downtown and 80 (4-of-5) at the line while registering a 2.0 assist-to-turnover ratio.

Megan Waytashek, South Dakota State

Waytashek earns her second Player of the Week award this season and fourth of her career after guiding South Dakota State to a road victory at Western Illinois. The junior forward registered game-highs of 22 points and 11 rebounds in the 13-point victory. She shot 53 percent (10-of-19) from the field and 40 percent (2-of-5) from three-point range in the game. The double-double performance was her first of the season and fifth of her career.

In its fourth decade of Division I athletics, The Summit League features women's basketball teams from nine member institutions: Denver, Fort Wayne, IUPUI, North Dakota State, Omaha, Oral Roberts, South Dakota, South Dakota State and Western Illinois. Over the past five seasons (2010-14), The Summit League has the nation's second-highest RPI gain (+10) during that span.
