SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The new year is upon us and Summit League action is in full swing. After one weekend of conference play only four teams remain undefeated with lots on highly anticipated contest to come. Week two of Summit League action gets underway on Wednesday followed by a full slate of games to close out the week.

The Opening Tip

North Dakota's Lexi Klabo had an impressive all-around outing in her first career Summit League contest. She led the Fighting Hawks in scoring (21), rebounding (8), blocks (3) and finished one assist (3) shy of tying for the team lead in that category as well.

Things to Watch

• South Dakota and South Dakota State will meet in Vermillion on Sunday for the first of two meetings this season. The Coyotes won both regular season meetings last season while the Jackrabbits won in the tournament championship game

• Oral Roberts' Misti Cussen will be going for win number 100 of her career. The Golden Eagles host North Dakota and Western Illinois this week

• Denver's Madison Nelson will attempt to increase her Summit League leading seven double-doubles when the Pioneers host South Dakota and North Dakota

• South Dakota State's Macy Miller is just 44-points away from reaching 2,000 in her career. She would be the sixth Summit League student-athlete to reach the 2,000-career points milestone


Summit League Notes


• Denver earned their first Summit League win of the year against Omaha and are currently 1-1 in league play

• The Pioneers will host South Dakota and North Dakota this week

• Denver is 2-11 all-time against USD and 0-1 all-time against UND. This will be the first time they host the Fighting Hawks

North Dakota

• North Dakota won their first-ever Summit League game in their first try with their win over Purdue Fort Wayne

• They have three straight games and four of their last five

• The Fighting Hawks will be on the road this week with games at Oral Roberts and Denver

• Klabo named player of the week

North Dakota State

• North Dakota State won their first Summit League game of the year and are currently 1-1 in league play

• The Bison will be on the road this week with its lone contest at Denver

• NDSU's Michelle Gaisleriva is ranked fourth in scoring at15.2 ppg. She is shooting 41 percent from the field and 36 percent from behind the arc


• Omaha dropped their first two Summit League games to Denver and Oral Roberts

• The Mavericks will take on North Dakota State at home before traveling to North Dakota to close out the week

• The Mavericks have lost their last five contests

• UNO is led by Claire Killian who is averaging 10.1 points per game this season. She opened league play with a career-high 21 points. She has reached double-digit points in each of her last four games

Oral Roberts

• Oral Roberts is 1-0 in The Summit League after opening the conference season with a win over Omaha

• The Golden Eagles have won five of their last seven games

• ORU will host North Dakota on Wednesday and Western Illinois on Saturday

• Oral Roberts is averaging 71 ppg and shooting 40 percent from the field

• Lakota Beatty is leading the Golden Eagles in scoring at 14.8 ppg. Keni Jo Lippe and Maya Mayberry are also averaging double-digit points this season

Purdue Fort Wayne

• Purdue Fort Wayne fell in their first two Summit League games after going to North Dakota and North Dakota State to open league play

• The Mastodons will host South Dakota State on Thursday in their lone contest this week

• Purdue Fort Wayne has been on the wrong side of the scoreboard in their last three games

• The Mastodons are led offensively De'Jour Young who is averaging 13.6 points per game . She is also the leading rebounder at 6.6 boards per game

South Dakota

• South Dakota extended their Summit League winning streak to 15 games after their win at North Dakota State

• USD is receiving votes in both the AP and WBCA Top 25 polls

• The Yotes have won 11 of their last 12 games

• South Dakota will travel to Denver on Wednesday before hosting in-state rival South Dakota State on Sunday. The Yotes won both regular season games against SDSU last season

• USD is 29-56 all-time against SDSU

• Ciara Duffy is the only Coyote averaging in double-digits at 13.3 points per game

South Dakota State

• South Dakota State is 1-0 in The Summit League after opening conference play with a win at Western Illinois

• The Jackrabbits will be on the road for two games this week against Purdue Fort Wayne and South Dakota

• SDSU leads the all-time series against USD 56-29. They lost both regular season match ups last season but defeated the Yotes in the Summit League Tournament Championships game

• Madison Guebert ranks ninth in the NCAA in 3-pointers made with 45

• Macy Miller is ranked ninth nationally in active career points leaders with 1,956 career points

Western Illinois

• Western Illinois opened Summit League play going 1-1 in the opening weekend. They fell to South Dakota State and defeated Denver

• The Leathernecks will go on the road for one game this week against Oral Roberts

• Olivia Kaufmann leads the team in scoring at 14.8 points per game. Taylor Higginbotham (13.4 ppg) and Annabel Graettinger (10.5 ppg) are also averaging double-digit points

• WIU is averaging 75.3 points as a team while shooting 39 percent from the field
