SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Last week was full of the excitement across the League and this week looks to provide just as much excitement. There will be Summit League games on Wednesday, Friday and all weekend as teams look to create separation in the standings.

The Opening Tip

Denver's Lauren Loven led the Pioneers to wins over South Dakota and North Dakota last week to improve the Pios' record to 3-1 in league play. Loven scored a career-high 32-points in Denver's upset victory over South Dakota to end the Yotes' 15-game Summit League win streak. She followed up her career game with an impressive 24-points against UND to earn her first Summit League Player of the Week honor of the season and the second of her career

Things to Watch

• Denver upset South Dakota at home last week and will look to pull off another stunner when they travel to South Dakota State on Wednesday

• Early in the conference season the standings are tight with four teams tied for second with 2-1 records and three teams at 1-2

•  After playing their first seven games of the season on the road, North Dakota has settled into a groove thanks to some home contests. The Fighting Hawks have won four of five and poised to continue their winning ways

• As part of the Summit League and Sanford Health's initiative to bring awareness to Type One Diabetes, our member intuitions will be brining awareness to the diseases at certain home games throughout the conference basketball season. This week Purdue Fort Wayne , North Dakota State and South Dakota will all host "Beat Type 1" games this week

Summit League Notes


• Denver upset South Dakota at home last week, ending the Yotes' 15-game Summit League winning streak

• Lauren Loven was named Summit League Player of the Week

• Through four conference games the Pioneers sit atop the league standings

• After picking up two home Summit League games last week, the Pioneers will travel to South Dakota State this week

North Dakota

• North Dakota has earned a 2-1 record to this point in the conference schedule

• The Fighting Hawks have won five of their last seven games

• Lexi Klabo is leading The Summit League in scoring at 18.8 points per game. She is also ranked second in rebounding at 8.3 boards per game

• UND will host Omaha and Western Illinois this week

North Dakota State

• North Dakota State fell in their lone Summit League game last week at Omaha

• The Bison will host Western Illinois this week in its lone Summit League contest this week

• NDSU is led by Michelle Gaislerova who is averaging 14.9 points per game


• Omaha ended a five-game losing streak when they defeated North Dakota State on Jan. 6

• The Mavericks will travel to Grand Forks, N.D. to take on the University of North Dakota in their lone game of the week

• In their win over the Bison, UNO made 10 3-pointers, a season-high

• UNO also set a season-high with 18 made free throws

• Claire Killian has reached double-digit points in five straight games

Oral Roberts

• Oral Roberts went 1-1 last week with a loss to North Dakota and a win against Western Illinois

• The Golden Eagles have won eight of its last 12 games with alternating wins and losses in its last five games

• ORU will be on the road this week when they travel to Purdue Fort Wayne and South Dakota State

• Lakota Beatty (14.9), Kenji Jo Lippe (12.8) and Maya Mayberry (12.3) are leading the Golden Eagles in scoring

Purdue Fort Wayne

• Purdue Fort Wayne enters the week on a four-game losing streak

• This week they will host Oral Roberts and travel to South Dakota for two Summit League contests

• De'Jour Young has been one of the most consistent scorers in The Summit League this season. She is averaging a team high 13.4 points per game and has reached double-digit points in eight straight games and in 12 of the 15 games she has played in this season

South Dakota

• South Dakota went 1-1 last week in Summit League play. They were upset on the road by Denver before winning a double overtime game against South Dakota State

• The Yotes have been receiving votes in either the AP or WBCA Top 25 national polls for six straight weeks

• USD's Ciarra Duffy scored her 1,000th career point against SDSU

• With its win on Sunday, the Coyotes have won five straight home games against the Jackrabbits

• USD made 18 straight free throws down the stretch to complete the comeback victory over SDSU

• South Dakota will host Purdue Fort Wayne in their lone game this week

South Dakota State

• South Dakota State defeated Purdue Fort Wayne and fell in double overtime game at South Dakota

• SDSU's Macy Miller scored her 2,000th career point at SDSU. She became the first Jackrabbit to score 2,000 career points and the sixth Summit League student-athlete

• The Jackrabbits will host Denver and Oral Roberts this week. They had played their previous five games on the road

• SDSU has an 83-8 record in Summit League home games

Western Illinois

• Western Illinois lost to Oral Roberts in their  lone contest last week

• The Leathernecks have gone .500 in their last four games

• They will be on the road for two games this week against North Dakota State and North Dakota

• Olivia Kaufmann is leading Western Illinois in scoring, averaging 14.8 points per game. Taylor Higginbotham (13.6) and Annabel Graettinger (10.6) are also averaging double-digit points
