Weekly Notebook 12 W/ Stats

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – With many teams having already played their 20th game of the season or will be playing their 20th of the year this weekend, we are officially on the backside of the schedule and things are beginning to take shape. From the league standings being a tight race from top to bottom, to finding out who will win the scoring crown for this season, we are in for a fun next couple of weeks of Summit League hoops.

The Opening Tip

Western Illinois' junior guard Olivia Kaufmann led her squad to a perfect 2-0 record last week. She helped the Leathernecks improve their conference record to 4-3 and now sit in fourth-place in the league standings. Kaufmann led the Leathernecks by doing a little bit of everything. In two games she filled up the stat sheet with 15-points, 8.5 assists, six steals and 5.5 rebounds.

Things to Watch

• South Dakota and South Dakota State sit atop The Summit League standings with 5-1 league records. USD currently holds the head-to-head advantage with their double overtime win against the Jackrabbits on Jan. 6

• North Dakota's Travis Brewster is one-win shy of 110 in his career

• Denver's Madison Nelson earned her eighth double-double of the season last week and has two more double-doubles than Lexi Klabo of North Dakota who has six. Her eight double-doubles has already tied the top mark from the last two seasons

• SDSU's Macy Miller is nine points away from moving into fourth on the all-time scoring list in The Summit League and 18 points shy of the moving into third. She currently has 2,048 career points

Loven is averaging four makes per game and with at least 10 games remaining, she is on pace for 119 this season. Loven is also shooting the three at a 49 percent clip, which if the season ended today, would be the second highest single-season three-point shooting percentage in league history

• As part of the Summit League and Sanford Health's initiative to bring awareness to Type One Diabetes, our member intuitions will be bringing awareness to the diseases at certain home games throughout the conference basketball season.
