SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – We've reached the home stretch of the season and no team has more than five games left to play. No. 25 South Dakota and South Dakota State are on a collusion course to claim the top spot in The Summit League while places three through six are separated by just three games. The final couple of weeks are going to be must see action.

The Opening Tip

North Dakota senior forward Lexi Klabo helped lead her Fighting Hawks squad to a 1-1 record in the Summit League last week and earn her third career Summit League Player of the Week honor. She guided UND to a season split against in-state rival North Dakota State with her 26-point, 12 rebound double-double performance.

Nationally Ranked

The University of South Dakota became the first Summit League program since South Dakota State ended the 2008-09 season ranked No. 19 to earn an AP Top 25 ranking. The Yotes, who had been receiving votes for 10 consecutive weeks, entered the top 25 for the first time in their program's history at No. 25. South Dakota joins Northern Illinois and South Dakota State as the only Summit League teams to earn a top 25 ranking.

Things to Watch

South Dakota will have an even larger target on its back now that they carry a national ranking. The Yotes will have a tough contest this week when they travel to Western Illinois on Saturday. USD is 13-3 all-time against WIU and 6-1 when the two teams play in Macomb, Ill.

• South Dakota State's Macy Miller continues to climb the Summit League scoring charts. In her career, she has scored 2,123 career points and is just 155 points shy of becoming the League's all-time leading scorer. Miller is averaging 16.9 points per game and has at least six games left to play

• Denver's Lauren Loven has made 89 three-pointers this season, seventh most in a Summit League single-season. The current record is 99 held by Jaci Bigham of Oral Roberts during the 2009-10 season

• Western Illinois' Taylor Higginbotham moved into 10th on The Summit League's all-time list for made three's in a career with 235. She is just two made 3-pointers away from moving into sole possession of ninth on the all-time list. She will pass Anne Hafeli of Oakland (2002-06) for 10th and Suzie Hammel of Valparaiso (2000-04) for ninth

Summit League Notes


• Denver enters the week with a 13-11 overall record and a 6-5 Summit League record

• The Pioneers snapped its three game losing streak last week with its 87-67 win at North Dakota State

• Denver will host Purdue Fort Wayne in their lone game this week

• The Pioneers lead the conference in scoring at 81 points per game

North Dakota

• North Dakota enters the week with a 10-15 overall record and a 5-7 Summit League record

• The Fighting Hawks had their two-game winning streak snapped on Saturday when they fell at South Dakota State

• Lexi Klabo was named The Summit League Player of the Week for the third time this season, most in the league this season

North Dakota State

• North Dakota State enters the week with a 6-17 overall record and a 3-8 Summit League record

• The Bison have lost five straight games. but will host Oral Roberts and South Dakota State this week

• NDSU is ranked seventh in The Summit League standings


• Omaha enters the week with a 7-17 overall record and a 1-10 Summit League record

• The Mavericks have lost three in a row and eight straight Summit League games

• Freshman Josie Filer tallied her second-career double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds against Western Illinois

• Filer's 20-points were a career-high

Oral Roberts

• Oral Roberts enters the week with an 13-12 overall record and a 6-6 Summit League record

• The Golden Eagles nearly upset South Dakota on the road last Saturday. ORU led the Yotes by 15-points and late in the fourth quarter. They fell to USD by 11

• Oral Roberts will be on the road for three straight games before closing out the season at home against Omaha on Feb. 28

Purdue Fort Wayne

• Purdue Fort Wayne enters the week with a 6-17 overall record and an 2-9 Summit League record

• The Mastodons have lost its last three contest. They will be on the road this week at Denver and Omaha

• De'Jour Young is having an excellent season for Purdue Fort Wayne, she is ranked 14th in the Summit League in scoring at 12.7 points per game and sixth in rebounding at 6.3 boards per game

South Dakota

• South Dakota enters the week with a 22-3 overall record and a 10-1 Summit League record

• The Coyotes entered the AP Top 25 for the first time in program history with its No. 25 ranking

• The Yotes had been receiving votes in the AP poll for the 10 consecutive weeks

• USD became just the third Summit League team all-time to earn an AP Top 25 ranking

• South Dakota has won nine games in a row and currently sit atop of the Summit League standings

• USD leads the Summit League in scoring margin at +19.4 points per game while also leading the league in scoring defense, allowing a league low 57.8 points per game

South Dakota State

• South Dakota State enters the week with an 18-6 overall record and a 10-1 record in the Summit League

• The Jackrabbits are receiving votes in the AP poll for the first time since Dec. 31, 2018

• SDSU will be on the road this week for its fourth road game in its last five games. Following their two-game road trip this week, they will close out the season with three straight home games

• South Dakota State has won eight straight games and 10 of their last 11

• SDSU leads The Summit League in field goal percentage at 47 percent

• Macy Miller has scored 2,123 career points. She is just 155 career points from being the all-time leader

Western Illinois

• Western Illinois enters the week with a 12-13 overall record and an 8-4 Summit League record

• The Leathernecks have settled into a grove of late, winning four straight games and seven of their last eight

• WIU will host No. 25 South Dakota on Saturday. It will be their second game this season against a top 25 team. They lost to No. 16/14 Mizzou in the first game of the season

• Taylor Higginbotham is just 71 points shy of moving into the top 10 for most points scored in Summit League history. She has scored 1,736 career points to date
