SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – South Dakota State and South Dakota are the top two seeds in the 2019 Summit League Women's Basketball Tournament. The 27th annual event will showcase the top eight teams in the league and will be played March 9-12 at the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center in Sioux Falls, S.D.
South Dakota State finished the regular season with a 15-1 league record and claimed the outright regular-season title for the sixth time since joining The Summit League and the first time since the 2013-14 season. South Dakota ended the regular season in second place, with a league record of 14-2, earning the No. 2 seed in the tournament.
Denver and Oral Roberts tied for third place in the standings with 10-6 records. The Pioneers earned the No. 3 seed based on their victory over South Dakota on Jan. 3 because Denver and Oral Roberts split their head-to-head matchups. Oral Roberts will be the No. 4 seed.
Western Illinois sits alone in the five spot in the standings and will be the No. 5 seed in Sioux Falls after finishing 8-8 in Summit League play. In their first season in The Summit League, North Dakota finished with a league record of 6-10 and will be the No. 6 seed in the tournament.
North Dakota State posted a 4-12 league record this year, good for seventh place in the final Summit League Women's Basketball standings. With their seventh-place finish, the Bison have secured the No. 7 seed in the championship event. Rounding out the field of eight will be Purdue Fort Wayne who grabbed the No. 8 seed on the final day of competition with their 66-46 win over North Dakota State.
For the fifth consecutive year, all men's and women's games at The Summit League Basketball Championships can be viewed live across multiple platforms ranging from cable television to handheld devices. The coverage by Midco Sports Network and ESPN platforms marks the 10th consecutive season that both the men's and women's tournaments are available nationwide in their entirety.
All women's quarterfinal and semifinal games will be produced and televised by Midco Sports Network for the 10th straight season and the feed will extend beyond its regional footprint via ESPN3. The Summit League Women's Basketball Championship game will air on ESPNU for the 11th straight year.
