Denver’s Nelson notches player of the week honors

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Denver forward Madison Nelson secured her third Summit League Women's Basketball Player of the Week honor of the season, league officials announced Monday. The senior notched 31 points while shooting 59 percent from the field to open up league play.

The Dover, Minn., native paved the way for the Pioneer's come-from-behind 91-82 victory over North Dakota State on the opening day of league play. She notched a career-high 31 points alongside 12 rebounds for her ninth double-double of the season. Nelson finished 13-for-22 from the field and 5-for-6 from the charity stripe while also tallying five steals, three blocks and three assists.

After heading into half time down 48-42, Nelson cut the Pioneer's deficit to 54-53 after recording a steal and back-to-back layups three minutes into the third quarter. In the final quarter of the game, Denver went 4-for-4 from the field which included three-straight layups from Nelson to help propel the Pioneers to the victory.
