Western Illinois’ Kaufmann notches weekly honors

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Western Illinois guard Olivia Kaufmann earned her first Summit League Women's Basketball Player of the Week award of the season, league officials announced Monday. The senior averaged 21.5 ppg, 3.0 apg and 10.0 rpg to lead the Leathernecks to a 2-0 week in league play.

Kaufmann joined the 1,000 point club with a three-pointer in the first quarter en route to a double-double in Western Illinois' 79-68 victory over Purdue Fort Wayne. The three-pointer was the spark that lit the fire as she finished with 19 points and 10 rebounds in the win to go along with three assists and a steal.

The Jacksonville, Ill., native followed up that performance with another double-double in the 82-75 win over Denver. Kaufmann put a stop to Denver's comeback effort after the Pioneers made it a one point game (74-73) with 54 seconds to go. She answered with a layup and a defensive rebound to set up two made free throws that secured the victory for WIU. She finished the game with 24 points, 10 rebounds, three assists and a steal.
