Tiebreaker Procedures

Tie-break Procedures

A.    Tie-break procedures shall be used ONLY to determine seeds for the Championship.  Regular season standings shall stand.

B.    If there are multiple ties, the ties shall be broken in descending order. (i.e., a tie at the #1 position will be broken before any others). 

C.    Once a tie is broken using the procedures below, it shall remain broken for purposes of all future comparisons.

D.    Two-team Tie-break Criteria.  The following criteria shall be applied (in order) to break ties between two teams:

       1.             Results of head-to-head competition between the two tied teams.

       2.             Goal differential for league games only – up to a maximum of five per contest (total goals scored minus total goals against). 

       3.             Goals against for League contests only -- up to a maximum of five per contest.

       4.             Total goals scored for league contests only -- up to a maximum of five per contest (the team with the most goals scored in league contests shall be the higher seed).

       5.             Goal differential for all away league contests – up to a maximum of five per contest (total goals scored minus total goals against). 

       6.             Goals against for all away League contests - up to a maximum of five per contest.

       7.             Total goals scored for league away contests only -- up to a maximum of five per contest (the team with the most goals scored in league contests shall be the higher seed).

       8.             Points will be awarded for away League contests with wins counting as 3 points and draws counting as 1 point.

       9.             If a tie still cannot be broken after applying the above criteria, it will be broken by comparing each tied team's RPI (based on the RPI Ratings Report issed on the morning following the last regular season League contest).

E.    Three or More Team Tie-break Criteria.  The following shall be applied to break ties between three or more teams:

       1.             Goal differential for league contests only – up to a maximum of five per contest (total goals scored minus total goals against). 

       2.             Goals against for League contests only -- up to a maximum of five per contest.

       3.             Total goals scored for league contests only - up to a maximum of five per contest (the team with the most goals scored in league contests shall be the higher seed).

       4.             Goal differential for all away league contests – up to a maximum of five per contest (total goals scored minus total goals against). 

       5.             Goals against for all away League contests - up to a maximum of five per contest

       6.             Total goals scored for league away contests only -- up to a maximum of five per contest (the team with the most goals scored in league contests shall be the higher seed).

       7.             Points will be awarded for away League contests with wins counting as 3 points and draws counting as 1 point.

       8.             Goal differential for all home League contests - up to a maximum of five per contest.

       9.             Total goals scored for home League contests only - up to a maximum of five per contest

       10.           If the above results in two teams remaining, the two-team tiebreaker is used.

       11.           If a tie still cannot be broken after applying the above criteria, it will be broken by comparing each tied team's RPI (based on the RPI Ratings Report issed on the morning following the last regular season League contest).
